PGA Tour Golf review - Sega Megadrive
Time to dust down that silly hat, bright yellow wolly jumper and outrageous golfing trousers and mosey on down to four of the most skill-testing golf courses in the whole world. Each of the courses has 18 holes and the object in each is simple. Just get that dented little white ball from your starting position down the fairway and onto the green, where it's your express purpose to putt the little white item into the hole. Easy eh?
Well, matters are further complicated when more than one player takes to the course. This game enables up to four players to take each other on and any player can be controlled either by a human or by your trusty Megadrive.
PGA Tour Golf was originally a PC game, which came complete with a wealth of options to make you round of golf that more rewarding. Megadrive owning golf fanatics will be pleased to know that all of these options have been crammed into this cart - and with the aid of a battery back-up, your best golfers can be saved off to tee off another day.

Have your say about PGA Tour Golf

Being a golf fan, I have played PGA Tour Golf more than any other Megadrive cart. As a player, I can testify that the game is so good that it helps to improve your game! Even for those with an aversion to overpaid orange faces in Pringle sweaters and lurid golfing apparel, I defy you not to be relaxed as you slowly deliberate over which club to take, how to take account of the wind direction and what pace to hit the ball while listening to chirping birdies of the feathered kind. The original PGA was possibly bettered by PGA Tour III, also on the Megadrive, but has not been beaten as a game of video golf on any other system before or since. As Jazza subsequently said: "(PGA Tour Golf on the Megadrive) was grossly underrated (at 91%)." May I put this to rights now and give the game a new unofficial rating of 95%.

Mint game, really addictive and the ideal chill-out/post piss-up game. The flat surfaces were a bit weird when you watched your ball do a spaz-fit from side to side when on the putting green, but we all knew what was happening. Grand.

This to date is still the best golf game currently available and its 2009!! What makes it so great and challenging is its simplicity, no other game compares for skill factor, me and my family still have regular golf nights on the megadrive, its still as much fun now than when it was 15 years or more ago. I wish PS3 or Xbox could re invent this game, all it wud need is upto date players, better graphics and a few more little tweaks. Everything else should stay the same though because thats what makes the game so great to play. By the way i missed the cut last night for the first time in years, that shows the skill level required :)

I still rate this game today. Most of the new golf games still don't come close to this. The color pallet might have been limited but it was the control system and battery back up option where this game really shined. Being able to save your progress and stats, such as longest drive etc, were a new and welcome feature at the time. Classic status deserved.
