In the short time I've been a professional writer this has to rank as one of my proudest moments. I've lived near Rare's HQ my entire life and the place has a near-mythical quality in my eyes; however, this is the first time I've ever been able to actually visit. This cover feature for GamesTM magazine explores Rare's recent history, the development of Natal, the retail struggles with Banjo Kazooie and of course the future of the company, which, from what I witnessed on the day, is looking brighter than ever. My deepest thanks go to Cathy Campos for making the visit possible. I'd also like to thank Mark Betteridge (Rare's head of studio) and George Andreas (Rare's head of design) for taking part in the interview and not being too alarmed when I decided to use my iPhone to record the entire conversation (let's not forget that Rare is owned by Microsoft, people). I'd also like to extend my gratitude to GamesTM's Matt Handrahan for taking a chance on me and having so much faith in the final piece. |
