About the Super Nintendo

After the massive worldwide success of the NES, Nintendo were in a fine position to continue their dominance with their next machine. Released as the Super Famicom in Japan, the machine was re-designed for the US market (and what a botch-job they made of that - it looks terrible). Thankfully, PAL gamers were given the original Japanese shape, which must rank as one of the sexiest consoles ever.

In the US the SNES was given a hard time by Sega's Genesis (Megadrive), but when the dust had settled Nintendo came out on top, athough in worldwide terms the machine was not as successful as the NES.

The machine was home to what must rank as some of the finest games ever made - Super Mario World, Castlevania IV, Super Metroid...many still view the SNES as the ultimate console. Nintendo were on the top of their game and the third party support they got from companies like Konami, Capcom and Squaresoft was second to none. If you take your retro gaming seriously then you really should have one of these consoles.
